This always has really bothered me. Driving through my neighborhood, I see an older black Civic coupe. First, he cut me off. Then, I see him drifting across lanes. After a little warning honk, he does it again. This time he goes into the ditch; the back of the car leaving the ground. He almost went right into the traffic sign. Embarrassed (or distracted) he rolls through the stop sign. Please, don't text and drive!

Seconded. Please include the dude who smashed my left mirror last week.

Nice Grand Caravan, Asshat.

that's some grade A stupid.
You'd think the first time they crossed the lanes they'd be like 'woah I am not looking at where I am going, I should probably pull over and finish this text before going any further'
seriously though, My uncle was killed by a distracted driver. I have a special kind of hate for them.

I'm sorry to hear that. I lost two close friends because they were struck head on by a driver who was texting so it really bothers me.

SO you NEVER Txt and Drive ? NEVER ?
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:00 |

I'm okay with this as a PSA campaign for highways. I can just see a big billboard that says:
"Texting and driving? Go F*** yourself!"
It might get the point across.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:00 |

Nope. Never.
I had a personal experience with it so I always lock my phone in my glovebox.

ok props for being perfect man .. I txt and drive everyday .

Can't; my dick doesn't touch my asshole.

That would just be incredible!
In smaller letters: "We are tired of cleaning up your mess"

Would be a lame way to lose a soon to be V8 swapped 280z.

You really shouldn't... but I can't stop you. Just be careful. It always pisses me off when you (or anyone that does dumb shit) hits and either kills or seriously injures someone else and you walk away fine.
Out of curiosity, what is so important that you can't ignore it or pull over?
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:04 |

There's no shame in honesty. At least you've tried.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:05 |

it's pretty fucking crazy hey.
The newish laws down here now say that you can't even touch your phone unless you're handing it to a passenger. If you're using it for GPS or music then it needs to be in a commercially designed holder or else you get a $300 fine and demerit points.
I think the fine should be higher but I'm reminded of the time my brother was pulled over for talking on the phone even though he didn't have the his phone with him. The Cop refused to believe him and ticketed him anyway.
The kicker was that he'd left it at the Police Academy where he was fixing a laptop. Couldn't get one of the Sgt's there to write an affidavit for him as for all they knew he had two phones.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:07 |
|
Its a pain because in Florida, its a secondary offense, so getting stopped for it is nearly impossible. Plus its such a cheap fine the first time; it doesn't help
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:08 |
|
I get just as pissed as you do when people are swerving on the phone .. or better yet talking on the phone I dont understand how talking on the phone would hinder you more than txting !
Look its pretty hard not to respond to a booty call txt ..
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:08 |

Don't. If you are thinking about it? Don't. if you think you have a good reason to do it. Don't. If you think you are good enough of a driver to get a away with it. You're not. I watched as 12 kids nearly got mowed down by my aunt who was rear ended by a texting driver who literally just checked to see what the text said, wasn't even typing. Strange coincidence that I was at the store where there was a snow cone shack and she got rear ended, good thing there was a power pole in the way. If you think you are good enough to text and drive, you are wrong. Don't. Do. It.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:09 |

maybe we should just ban phones everywhere. Everyone go back to corded phones, we've had our fun.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:11 |

Also we didn't have this epidemic until touch screen phones became mandatory cause just like I'm typing this right now I'm not starring at the keyboard but the iphone and other popular phones don't have a keyboard anymore so you are forced to look at the phone to text on it .
That being said Apple , Android , and Microsoft phones all have a options to speak to txt which could avoid both hands and your face being focused on the phone instead of driving ..The reason no one uses them is because they arent accurate ..
And while I can easily Txt that I'm going to "Rip you apart" telling my phone that is just odd ...
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:13 |

Poor guy, just swimming in booty call texts all day!
I'm sure someone's next of kin would TOTALLY understand once they hear that was why you mowed down their parents/children/siblings etc.

I am not one for road rage but that crap gets my blood to boil. I had way too many close calls with people drifting into other lanes or ignoring signs because some jackass thinks sending a message of which the contents are likely completely pointless is more important than keeping a 2-ton vehicle on the road. If the message is so important pull off to the side and text there. I especially feel even more strongly about this when I have other people in my car. If someone crashes into me because they were distracted by pictures of some friends dog, the only call going out will be from me to the coroner for a body bag.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:46 |

Agreed 100%. Never fails, when you see somebody driving 5-10 mph under the limit and swerving all over the place, as soon as you pass them you'll see them hammering away at their phone.
I have no sympathy when these idiots crash, provided they don't take somebody else out with them.

Can we blame this issue on women?
For some reason ALL of the women I have dated in the last 5 years refuse to answer the phone.
Sometimes when you're in route to meet a person like this you need to contact them to say "hey traffic is bad, going to be late" or "HEY I'M LOST, ARE YOU SURE THE ADDRESS YOU GAVE ME IS CORRECT?".
But some women (especially those in their 20s) absolutely refuse to answer the phone. They are text-message only unless THEY are having an emergency and need to call you.
I don't understand it. I've had to pull over just to F'ing text someone a quick question or update. And I have to sit there until I get a response in case I have a follow up question.
Sorry for the rant. Girls these days... (those on Oppo excluded, I bet they understand how important it is to answer the phone when the other party is driving to see them and can't text but can make a safe hands-free call)
![]() 02/11/2014 at 17:59 |

Then what the hell do you do at stoplights?!
![]() 02/11/2014 at 18:04 |
|
Agreed. I hate doing anything while driving including eating and drinking. The most I will do is reply with a one word answer if it was an urgent text I was expecting... otherwise I just ignore the phone or make my wife/passenger slave deal with it.
Most people are so bad at driving they need 100% attention on the road for my to tolerate their existence.

Check my eyeliner, shave, read a chapter or two on my kindle (plays with cars, natch), create a new playlist, take pictures of everyone around me who is laughing at the old guy driving a new beetle... what do you do?
![]() 02/11/2014 at 18:09 |

Get off the road if you're not focused on driving, simple as that. Thanks for ranting. =)
![]() 02/11/2014 at 18:26 |

On one hand, I always kind of want them to crash... To learn a lesson. Its awful but its true.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 18:27 |

It drives me crazy. Mainly because I lost two close friends WHO WERE INNOCENT! because some a-hole was texting and hit them head on. It isn't fair. Not at all. The worst part? He walked away with a broken bone or two.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 18:39 |

Hah! I must confess to texting or surfing the web at nearly every light. The exception is if I am first in line. Then you HAVE TO watch the light, or else you're that guy when it turns green and you're sending a tweet.

When I'm at a complete stop, and I know I'll be there more than 30 seconds or so, I check my phone, or queue up a song on my phone (I use my phone to stream music from my computer - easier than finding a way to have a 200 GB library of music in my car). But when I'm in motion, or in a situation where I have a say about when I can move next, I ignore my phone entirely.
![]() 02/11/2014 at 18:55 |

Yeah, absolutely. Doing it while driving is nuts.

Last year I saw a car (I think it was an accord) weaving about as it was coming up on me, so I backed off and let it go.
She was heading for a bridge abutment with the impact barrels and stripey signs and she swerved back into her lane maybe 15 feet before hitting it, but jerked her wheel sharply when coming abreast of it, and it was obvious that she only then realized that she had nearly hit a freeway bridge.
I swear it was the only time I can remember actively wishing a car accident on a person, but on that day, I was rooting for her to crash head on into the thing.

ALL of the women I have dated in the last 5 years
Sounds like some reaaaal extensive data you've compiled there. And unless DatASSun is also a woman, there is at least one set of Y chromosomes to blame.

haha yeah not a big sample set for sure
just a personal rant. dunno why nobody i meet is willing to use the phone anymore

also i'll admit fault - i used to get frustrated and sometimes text back while driving. but i stopped. i'll pull over now no matter how much extra time that takes or how sketchy the area is.
texting while driving really is the devil. it's so freaking dangerous, especially if you are in motion and moving at a decent clip.
the funny thing is that being on oppo helps me be a better driver. sometimes if i'm thinking of doing something wrong my mind thinks "don't be an asshat, what would your oppo buddies think", lol

I dont text and drive, I was responding to the guy saying he does and saying that he could at least wait till a stop to respond because you know he won't hit anyone when stopped

Haha it's fine, I was just a bit confused
![]() 02/15/2014 at 02:34 |

The most annoying is I'll be a passenger and people won't let me respond for them like the text they just got will have the fucking nuclear football or something when really it'll be something like their mom asking them to pick something up on the way home
![]() 02/15/2014 at 11:14 |
|
Yeah. I just toss my phone to my passenger and tell them it's their problem. If they send something I don't like I just tell the person it wasn't me texting and punch the passenger in the head.
![]() 02/15/2014 at 11:18 |

Yeah same, even if I was someone willing to text while driving, I'm sure it's annoying to do so idk why more people don't do it. A lot of people are way too protective of their phones and I often make them either stop texting or let me or another passenger do it when I'm in the car
